*When I'm looking enviously at the baby's fresh fruits and vegetables, maybe I should be buying more for myself!
*Why is it Elijah will devour paper like it's his last meal, but looks at Baby Puffs like "You mean I should put this in my MOUTH?! You've got to be kidding."
*Elijah's Super Baby Porridge of pureed brown rice, lentils and avocado tasted pretty good. I may have to start making it for all of our breakfasts. Won't David love that!
*I had forgotten that when you talk with your face inside a cup it makes a funny noise.
*It's easier to wash Elijah's face after a meal when I let him drink from my water cup (he dribbles.) He gets so excited when I bring the cup to his face, his little legs kick up and down and he bounces in his seat! "Ooh! Look! I get a sip of WATER!"

sitting and pulling up
a big weekend... Elijah has learned to maneuver himself to sit, and pulled himself up to stand! Yesterday it was a struggle and major effort, today he pops up like it's no big deal...
Monday, February 22-- came in to find Elijah sitting up in his crib (proud as can be) after his nap.

because Elijah really wanted a pet
At school, Ms. Pat (school nursery) takes Elijah to look at the giant school fish tank, and he gazes happily at all the colorful fish. Since hearing this, I figured Elijah needs his first pet.
Thus began phase 2 of my not-so-secret plan to make Elijah a little animal-lover. (Phase 1 was decorating his room with monkeys, lions, elephants, giraffes...) I figure, together we can convince David "I had brothers, not pets" Voss that we need all those future animals...
Today, I took Elijah to Petco. He loved all of the lit aquariums. He giggled at the parakeets, and reached out for the little white mice. He was most fascinated by the turtles, but seeing as how those live 25-30 years, we opted on a beautiful blue betta fish as his first pet.
I'll let David name him.

Note: We named him "Zed." After a character in a book David was reading, and the Vancouver Winter Olympics. He's a pretty lazy fish.
9 months
note that Elijah and his frog are doing the same pose
just not for long
this baby's got places to go

dinner time
Mama, more sweet potatoes, please?
Yea! Here they come!
Oh, yeah, I'm opening wide.
Can I have the spoon, too?
Ahh... the spoon.
And here are my teeth!

the quest
Each day Elijah strives in his quest to remove his socks. Though he is thwarted in his attempts, he perseveres. Have you ever seen a sock stretched that long?

Elijah's Army Crawl
Elijah is now officially mobile. Although he hasn't quite mastered the proper crawling form, he's on his way there with a modified army crawl. Although we knew he was mobile, we couldn't get him to crawl on demand... until I put my laptop on the ground and he made a direct line for it.
Super Bowl 2010
I need to get better at remembering to take pictures. David usually takes care of this, as it doesn't occur to me to take photos until afterwards. Usually this is fine, unless, of course, David is engrossed in the activity at hand, such as last night's Super Bowl. No photos.
So let me give you a few pictures we should have taken...
1. Elijah dressed in his "Daddy's #1 Draft Pick" football outfit (thanks, Brian and Laura!), with David and me in our Colts gear, specially mailed to us by Mom "Grandma" Voss who wanted to make sure we could watch in style.
2. The three littlest guests at our Super Bowl party carrying around the plush footballs we got them.
3. The spread: Vegetarian White versus Meat-lovers Classic chilis, taco dip, pigs-in-a-blanket, wings, brownies, and all the other game day essentials.
4. Laughing at the commercials with our Commercial Bingo cards David made for us.
5. Elijah leaping and jigging in his Johnny Jumper, enjoying his 360-degree audience. The other little ladies had to have a turn, too, which the little man found hilarious.
6. A dejected David rocking a crying Elijah after the Colts lost... There's always next year...
