Evangeline at 5 Months

Evangeline at 5 months
When Mama is holding her, Evangeline is a happy, smiley, wiggly little baby, cooing and babbling.
If Mama is not holding her, Eva uses her prodigious skill of screaming to let the world know she wants her Mama.  Unfortunately, it is common for Eva to be screaming her little head off in her loving Daddy's (or another loved one's) arms, then when I take her, she immediately turns to him (from the safety of my arms) and starts cooing and giggling.  Little punk.  This happens frequently.  We took a video of this, though it had terrible lighting.  We'll take another and post it.  It's priceless.  Little Mama's Girl.

Eva has discovered her toes, and the delights of grabbing them and sticking them in her mouth.  She has learned that if she grabs her feet, she can propel her body to roll in the direction she wants to go.

Eva rolled over both ways this month.  The first time she rolled back-to-front was in the church "Cry Room."  I put Eva down on a blanket for a second, and she just flipped right over like she'd been doing it all her life.  This child will be crawling in no time. She has the desire.

Eva has the cutest little laugh, more of a cackle really.  She'll hold my two index fingers and pull herself up to stand on my lap and just cackle she's so pleased with herself.  She also cackles when we rub our foreheads on her belly.  She finds this hilarious.

Eva adores her big brother.  She giggles when he's near, and watches him play.  He relishes this attention from her, and talks to her.  My favorite is, "Eva, how do rocket ships go into space?!"
She also is showing interest in her giraffe lovey, much to Elijah's delight. He makes sure she has it near.

She still wakes 2-3 times a night to nurse.  Her naps are starting to solidify with one in the morning at about 9am, and another in the afternoon around 2pm (when Elijah naps! May this continue for a long, long time!!)

She still is fairly petite, only just fitting into her 3-6 month clothes.  She is nursing much better, even when distractions are present, thankfully (is there ever a time when distractions are not present in a house with a 2 year old?!)

We are enjoying her animated, sunny personality (when she's held by Mama, of course).

BioPark

The Spring was came to ABQ and we decided to head to the BioPark to check out the trains and the few flowers that were out. Eli loved watching the trains.

Went to Walmart...

...and Eva was given a shirt at the Eye Center. The eye technician came out with a big smile and said, "I'm not going to see my niece today after all, so your baby can have this!"

The onesie reads "Me 1st St Patrick's Day!"

Eva thanked her with coos and smiles.

A Carrier for Monkey

Elijah has taken to carrying his monkey in his shirt, leaving his hands free for play. "Nana's little carrier," he explains. We think this is about as cute as it gets.

Cloud Dough

Came across this fun recipe for Cloud Dough:
8 c. Flour
1 c. Baby Oil

It has an amazingly soft texture, yet moldable, like wet sand. We got out muffin cups and made "birthday cupcakes," used cups to make sand castles, cookie cutters to make shapes, and of course, tractors to dig trenches. Yeah, it got everywhere, but that's where it's nice to have wood floors! The little man loved it (so did I.)

"Let's make MUSIC!"

Elijah found my guitar in the garage.  "Let's make MUSIC!" he beamed.
I haven't touched it in years, and don't even have a tuner or pitchpipe, but found a free app and tuned it for him, thanks to a free app on my phone (amazing what is available via mobile phone, isn't it?!)  I remembered a few basics, but he was eager to make the music himself. He played us some songs of original composition, as well as a cover of his favorite song, "Backhoe Backhoe." Groupie Eva sat beside him.  I think she'll be his lead vocalist before long, but she was content to listen for now.

Good Morning!

After waking up EVERY HOUR with poor Eva, miserable from my dairy experiment, I was so thankful Elijah was sleeping in a half hour. I was enjoying just how comfortable I was under the warm blankets when he came in.

"Good Morning, Mama!" He greeted brightly. "I need potty. I had very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, ve-ry big poop accident."

Ah, parenthood. Good Morning to you, too.

Eli's first rocket

One of Elijah's many passions in life is rockets and space. This probably has something to do that his dad works with satellites and has pictures of rockets hanging all over his walls at work. Not to mention his grandpa has a number of rocket stories he can pull out as well for the little man.

Well earlier this week as I was about to walk out of Eli's door so he could fall asleep the little man threw out a question he knows will always get a response from me ... "Daddy, how do rockets ships go into space." (I think I've answered this about 10 different ways by now). Anyway one thing led to another and I was telling him about rockets and the robots we sent to mars (well more like rovers, but he understood robot better). I told him I would show him pictures of mars and the robots the next day. So the next night after dinner Eli and I spent half an hour watching YouTube clips of Spirit and Opportunity as well as SpaceX launches and future martian vehicles. He loved it! At that point I figured little man was ready for his first rocket experience. So we went to Hobby Lobby and purchased the entry level Estes rocket rated for 350 ft. It was perfect for him and only required minimal effort to snap the portions together. I can't tell you how excited he was in the aisle of Hobby Lobby looking at all of the different rockets.

We got home from the store pretty late as we had been visiting some friends, but I told Eli that we could assemble the rocket the following morning. Well I woke up to Eli saying "Daddy, we build rocket now?". So at 6:30am we began to assemble the rocket.

It was simple enough that with a little guidance (well possibly a lot of guidance) Eli was able to clip all of the parts together.

When it was finally together Eli was ecstatic! So excited he did a little jig on the chair.

Once we had assembled the rocket we practiced putting the rocket on the launch rod and the makeshift launch pad (an old Ikea table that has been re-purposed more times than I can remember).
